The State of California is just 162 years old, but in many ways the accumulation of information that documents all that has happened in this relatively short amount of time provides a story that is very engaging. In part, that story has been visually captured by California artists from the past and present. These artists chose to produce works that capture scenes of the period and culture in which they lived. This art tradition dates back to when the state was founded in 1850.
